Command An Army Progression

Direct answerProgress in Command An Army comes down to raising your Star Limit and pulling on the Standard Banner for units you can afford to field. The Star Limit rises as you level up — reaching a Star Limit of 6, for example, opens enough room to slot in an extra body such as a Shieldman alongside what you already run.
The core progression loop
What is thin in Command An Army is the amount of content sitting on top of the systems. So progression comes down to two things: raising your Star Limit (which rises with level), and pulling units from the Standard Banner that fit within that limit. The current guides do not publish an XP curve or a level cap.
Invest in the unit you can field
Separate the choice from the upgrade loop: Best Units answers who fits the job, while this page explains how leveling raises the Star Limit. Confirm the role in the roster and test the planned squad in the Army Builder. Evolution remains HOLD until a current mechanic is verified.
What is verified vs deferred
| Mechanic | Status | What we show |
| Star Limit rises with level | Verified | The cap raises as you level; example 6 opens a Shieldman slot |
| Standard Banner pulls | Verified | x1 50 / x10 500 gems; stronger than starters |
| XP curve / level cap | Hold | Not published — we do not invent numbers |
| Per-unit star values | Hold | Unverified — kept null |
How units get stronger — and the evolve question
The stronger-troop path you can verify today is acquisition, not mutation: your Star Limit rises with level, and new, stronger troops enter your army through Standard Banner summons rather than by upgrading what you started with. Per-unit upgrade costs, an upgrade tree, and any evolution or ascension system are not verified in current sources — so this page does not invent numbers or an evolve recipe. See Best Units, Tier List and Units for what is confirmed.
Build-doc rule: progression/leveling pages only go live once the real progression mechanics can be verified; avoid generic advice. This page documents only the verified loop.
